There are plenty of us that didn't know General Motors only seem to like small hatchbacks. In the US, GM currently offers no hatchbacks and are discontinuing most of their small models without replacing them with anything new that is comparable. The last hatchback models to be discontinued were the totally impractical Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird, only available in a 200+ hp 6 cylinder or even more fuel thirsty 8 cylinder configurations. My opinion of their impracticality stems from my observation that only two people could fit comfortably in these cars, and there was nearly no useable cargo room. The Chevrolet Metro, a tiny economy model made by Suzuki, I believe, was discontinued a few years ago. I can't think of any hatchback models from Ford (there might be a Focus model is a hatchback) or the US divisions of Daimler-Chrysler either. The only hatchbacks I can think of that are available in the US for the 2003 model year are made by Mercedes (C230), Volkswagen (Golf) and Hyundai (Elantra GT).
