There were some minor engine changes. Functionally, it is very similar. It has an intercooler (all 16VT in the US do). All turbo 85> are 16V The 86 has vented rotors vs the '85s solid. This can be retrofitted if you are so interested. Probably increases the fade on the '85 vs. the '86. I think the shifter mechanism changed sometime in MY'86. The 'centering mechanism' was relocated from the shifter to the transmission internal. No biggie, though. The '85 does not have the turn signals behind the front wheels whereas the '86 does. Best to ensure that it does not have a rust problem (I do not know where you are located). Look at standard stuff, wheel bearings, CV joints, oil leaks, front main seal, harmonic balancer, AC compressor/hose leak. The boost gage should indicate at the border of orange/red at WOT if the ignition/FI system/Turbo is all up to snuff. Good luck!
