Worked like a charm! the only parts I needed to remove for the second go around, were the air intake horn and the alternator ground wire. re and re the regulator, clean the mating surfaces (you can see which side of the alternator to work on by looking at the back of the regulator), coat everything with dielectric grease, and bingo! turn the key and up came the battery light! car started and runs ok. Now for the next problem.... When running, the oil filler pipe emits a light 'smoke' and the crankcase ventilation pipe is under pressure, not high, but pulsating. There is a check valve in the line to the manifold. I'll be making a separte post for this as it might be interesting.... Thanks again for the help and encouragement.
