Well, it wasn't Neutron-Jack specifically who I was referring to, but he was of course my ultimate boss. I spent 12 years working for GE Medical Systems, mostly in Waukesha, Wisconsin. I got to do 3 months over in Radlett, England, doing the "Hi, nice to meet you, I'm here to take your job. Would you be so kind as to train me? Thanks." thing, back in 1992 or 1993. The manager they sent to do the dirty deed, had been to that same plant years previously, and shut down their circuit board fabrication operations, cutting the workforce in half. (gotta outsource to a lower-cost country, of course). A few years later, he shows up for a "tour", and a month after he leaves after his tour, they get notified that they're being shut down, and he's in charge of the "transition team". You can bet how welcome he was on the factory floor. (translation: not at all). They were actually OK with us worker-types, but he was very much not their favorite person. Did you get out of G.E. before they went overboard on Six-Sigma? Yikes, what a potentially good thing that ends up just getting in the way of getting things done. I'm sure there are good applications of it, but when you overanalyze the hell out of *every* *possible* *aspect* of a project, it really slows things down. I just don't get it. Last I heard, the axe-man manager I worked for, wandered off to G.E. Locomotives in Erie, PA (heh...), where he's up to his usual tricks. What were you doing in Evandale? (This is probably more of an email thing, my email address does work). Dave Hinz
