9000CS is the 5 door hatchback version. It is subdivided into CS and CSE with the main difference being the level of trim ("E" stands for equipment, I think). Each of these 2 variations can, according to the official Saab brochure (not the dealer's one), be fitted with 2.0 (can be naturally aspirated, LPT or HPT) and 2.3 (again, naturally aspirated, LPT or HPT) and 3.0 litre (naturally aspirated only) engines, depending on the markets. The top of the range is known as 9000 Aero. It has lowered sport suspension and an upgraded 2.3 litre turbo engine which is even more powerful than the 2.3 HPT fitted to certain CS and CSE. To add more confusion, not all the above engine choice is available in a particular market. In Hong Kong where I live, at the time of purchase of my 9000, 9000CS carried 2.0 LPT only, whereas 9000CSE was stuck with a 2.3 LPT. The 2.3 HPT was reserved for the 9000 Griffin, the most luxurious 9000 sedan. A note of caution. A 9000 Aero with auto transmission only has a 2.3 HPT, not the true Aero engine. This is because the 9000 auto transmission couldn't cope with the true Aero engine. Saab compromised the problem by bolting the less powerful 2.3 HPT to an auto 9000 Aero.
