I used the quick quote ssystem of my insurer, to get an idea for an 84 NA and 8v Turbo. I know when I used that when I used them to get a TPFT quote on the Favorit, it was very competetive, and when I phone to buy, they made it fully comprehensive, for £50 more (£389) becuase I had the bucket seats installed and a stainless back box (Sebring). For the Saabs, low end for the NA was £340 something, and high end for the Turbo was about £450 fully comp, allowing for it to be about £50 more if I phoned to buy, looks like I could insure a moderate condition turbo for about £500. I'm 33, but I've only had a full license for just over a year, and have one years no claims, because the Estelle was insured while I was a learner. > http://www.parkers.co.uk/owning/insurance_guide/ins7.asp will give you more > of an indication for the models. > > Of all the cars we've owned, the Saabs are the only ones not to be broken > into (touch wood). Last year, faced with a Saab turbo and an MG Metro, > thieves tried to steal the Metro!? Twice !!! It's good to know that "they aren't worth bothering with", as they don't recognise the shape, and can't read the badge in the dark. My Estelle was the same, but the Favorit looks abit "me" Hatchback, especially since it has brightred fixed bucket seats with harness slots in. probably thought it was a polo or something in the dark. The buggers even went to the trouble of switching of the courtesy light to avoid being seen, went through the glove box, pulled the rear seats forward to check in the boot, ignored the CD player (face was off), left the footwell speakers, and the parcel shelf with decent speakers, and the few tools and a footpump in the boot, and only took an old jacket that I keep stuffed behind the passenger seat, and an emergency breakdown back that was under (space blanket/towrope/torch/de-icer sort of stuff). they even left the couple of burned compilation CDs. > > The other half says "God they're ugly". > > Mine did too :) She just couldn't see the classic lines, but then she is a > VW Scirocco fanatic. > > Since she's been driving Saabs, she's definitely changed her mind. I think it's an ugly beauty, the rugged different, not "me too" look that does it for me, an odd design expertly executed. > > I usually put in about £20 a week for about 200-250 miles driving, my > > maths may be totally off, but I reckon that to be arround 42 to the > > gallon (hate having to convert cash to litres, then litres to gallons). > > £30 gets me about 300 miles, give or take. It's not as good as your Skodas, > but Saabs have more style to pay for <grin> :P > Oh I agree, and something I would be willing to pay for. Can't see an Octavia RS (my choice of new car if I had the money) getting much more than that even with a modern funkly VW turbo engine. It's still a 2 litre 180bhp turbo, in a fairly large car. -- Carl Robson http://www.bouncing-czechs.com
