Instead each unit powers its own lamps and is informed about the desired intensity by messages sent over the instrument bus (I-BUS, a CAN-bus connecting many electronic boxes in the 9-5). This means that the audio head unit does not have an "instrument light" pin in its connector (as can be seen here: < http://www.nospam.com/saab/faq_audio.shtml#head >).
