Subject: Re: What fuel for a classic 900 in UK

In article <lDueSMAmbp79Ewhlnopsam.demon.co.uk>, cggsnopsamere.co.uk says... > The one about sow's ears comes to mind but most of us have been there at > one misguided time or another. Not that there's anything much wrong > with Skodas nowadays. ;-) > Thing is, the older ones (the rear engined ones) are the most fun to drive. But when I chose mine, I chose the wrong one. A basic 120L (1200cc) with 4 gears, and swing axle IRS. Still a nice enough drive but rattley as hell (thanks to age and previous owner neglect), and buzzy above 80 because of the 4 speed box. If I had the choice I would have found a 130GL Estelle or a 130/135/136 Rapid, they have 5 speed boxes and Semi-Trailing arm IRS. Even nicer drive, and better engineered. If I had found one of those, I would still be driving it. It really is like driving a slow porsche 911. I bought the Favorit, for practicallity, and if I could have been happy with the dubious wallowy handling of the MOT legal, but very worn shocks, and the very flat slidey seats it would have been so cheap to get about in. But it just isn't the same fun as an Estelle or Rapid. It is far to conventional, but they can be made to og very quickly. A friend has built a rally Favorit which he competes in, very cheaply, it has 135bhp, but a better power to weight than an Octavia RS with 180bhp because it is stripped and lightened for Rallying. Has a faster 0-60 than the RS, and at a recent track day he recorded the fastest time of the day, against 2 Imprezas, an Octavia RS, an Audi TT, and an Elise. And they weren't taking it easy. Some details of his car can be found at http://www.madfavorit.co.uk bloody fast, nice handling car, but totally impractical for daily driving. -- Carl Robson http://www.bouncing-czechs.com
