Subject: Re: Battery replacement Nightmare!

My thought was, and I could be completely wrong in Saab's situation, was that the security system may be designed to detect foul play in the wiring while the ignition is off. I've installed a couple aftermarket car security systems that monitor voltage changes (+/-). To do so, I would suspect the system would have enough juice stored in capacitors to act independently and to disable the starter and/or allow the security system save the error code for the next time it has power (hence the symptoms after he put the new battery in). I don't believe the Saab security system will disable the starter, but it could certainly detect someone trying to bridge the ignition system (positive wire) and save an error code. In such a situation the security system would care less if you disconnected the ground. That would mean the whole car is dead anyway. That was just my semi-educated theory, right or wrong Gary
