Actually the new Hyundai's are very well designed and should be as reliable/durable as the Japanese cars. -- ______________________________________ From: Rob Senior Executive Managing Manager, Department of Redundancy Department ______________________________________ "tom reingold" <tlr244nopsamnline.net> wrote in message news:3E0B4523.9090107nopsamnline.net... Firstly, he said Japanese, not Jap. In case you don't know, Jap is a racist term. I know, I know, it sounds innocuous, especially since it's just an abbreviation. But it has come to have the same status as the word nigger. And that word only meant black, some time ago. Secondly, no, I wouldn't equate Japanese cars with Korean cars. From what I've seen and heard, Hyundais are not very durable. I see a lot of them blowing smoke before they get too old. From my experience and that of most others I've talked to, and the press, too, Japanese cars are very good combination of reliability and durability. That's why the American market keeps slanting towards those makers, particularly Honda and Toyota. > > I think your point is that Saab manufacture solid, driveable and fun cars. > This is *not* typical of European engineering. I still love Fiat (my Punto GT was the car I could have > killed myself in - 130 BHP on a car that small was just dangerous). The American market has only a small (mis)representation of the cars that Europe makes. Mostly, they are the high end of the market. We don't have Fiats or Peugeots here (or many other brands) and we don't have low end Volvos either. > > I do think of all the competition in the world and £30K, I'd buy a Saab. Yeah, me too, but this shouldn't surprise anyone, given the forum we are discussing this in.
