If it's any consolation, I've been putting up with a similar bumping/popping and the occasional grinding from the rear left on my '85 900i for some time now. I've had the wheels off several times, including when new shocks were fitted about 8 months ago and new brake discs and pads about a year ago. On my first Saab ('88 900 turbo), the problem developed into a light "tugging" on the rear left wheel. I think that was most likely a sticky brake, but it went away shortly after that anyway and the car died good and proper a couple of months later so I can't comment on the long-term effects. You mention that it's hard right turns that cause the noise. Is it not the mid-flap dragging? You seem to have checked everything else, but you say the car "bounces fine". Do you mean that when you push down on one of the rear corners the car rises back to solid in one go, or does the car bounce? If it bounces then the shocks are done for and some dragging will definitely occur on hard corners. Are you left or right-hand drive? Your weight could be adding to the problem on an otherwise level car when unladen. Just some thoughts. Good luck with finding the problem.
