You may be right that we're best off installing them as intended, but Joe has a point (by asking his question). The tires are exerting forward force against the ground when you brake and backward force when you accelerate. Therefore, I would guess -- I don't know how much my guessing is worth -- that the directional pattern has more to do with expelling snow or rain than with dry traction. Because, as Joe points out, what helps in one direction of force might hinder in the other direction. -- Tom Reingold Noo Joizy
