Subject: ABS Warning Light

Re: Saab9000S 1992 My hand brake had locked on and I took the car to a brake specialty shop where they have not been entirely sucessful. If I pull the lever all of the way it usually freezes on but if I pull it just enough to hold the car on a moderate grade it will release completely. Wh4en it does freeze, I have been able to release it by stamping on the brakes as hard as possible when the car is travelling about 10 or 20 MPH. It usually requires several tries. The shop has been unable to improve this problem. Over the past two years and about 20,000 miles this has happened before and both times another shop has replaced the rear calipers which seems to work for a while. Is there a permanent fix? Also after this repairer "fixed" the emergency, the ABS light comes on after a short time. When the car is turned off and restarted the ABS light comes on and goes off again as it should only to turn on and stay on after a brief delay. Will this clear itself? The brakes are acting normally. Or what should be done to get the light to act correctly? Aside from the nuisance of seeing the light on when the system appears to act normally, does it do harm or cause problems to run this way? Perhaps it will "heal" itself. MWM
