I have heard, from tire stores, the best way to repair a puncture through the tread is to patch it from the inside. This obviously means removing the tire which requires special equipment and for most people, having it done by the tire store. If the puncture is in the sidewall, you don't patch the tire. I have the opportunity to purchase a used tire changer that can only handle up to 15 inch rims. No problem for me since I don't have any 16 or 17 inch rims. The only hassle is I may need to upgrade my compressor.
