The auto transmission on Saab 9000 is made by ZF of Germany.  Its
designation is 4HP18.  This unit was also used on Alfa 164 and the
old BMW 3 series, the E30 (1980s to early 1990s).
<p>I don't know about the manual trans, though.
<p>The auto encyclopedia (from which I learned this platform sharing between
Alfa, Lancia and Saab) also says even though the platform was shared, the
number of common parts which could be shared between the Lancia and Saab
are less than 10, mainly some (not all) panels or fenders.</html>
