It's quite > possible that on that model it is integral to the design of the engine. Quite. The manual for my 1993 Saab 9000 CSE LPT require synt or semi synt. I just did the oil/filter change, 5/40 synt; motorway consumption went from 40 mpg to 42 mpg (imperial gallons = 4.5446 L) and the engine sounded smoother. This suggest that the 5k interval is about right. Johannes
