Recently the SID display in my 9-3 began displaying a message - SERVICE THEFT ALARM. My local SAAB dealer service department diagnosed the problem and explained that the alarm siren needed to be replaced. I was surprised, since the alarm has never been acitvated, but upsetting since the shop wantted to charge me $340 to replace the faulty component. How does a part such as an Anti-theft system siren "go bad" on a 3-4 year old auto , and why should it be so costly to replace? WPK
