A V6 has a lot of low end torque - which is just right for a wagon, particularly if you have an automatic. (FWIW, I don't think I'd want a turbo on an automatic anything myself). I think the V6 takes most of the abuse because of the maintenance issues of the timing belts, spark plug changes, thermostat changes, etc. I have no idea if the current engine still has those issues.
