They work very well to at least get the fabric up from resting on your head as you drive, and if you space them out well, don't look bad at all. I bought a half-dozen or so for my 900, and ended up just leaving it that way. If you wanted to get creative with fabric, I don't see any reason why you couldn't use these as if they were buttons, to hold the new fabric up to the existing headliner...these fasteners screw into the high density fiberglass shell (soft enough, no worries), and it just works.
