Subject: Instrument cover replacement

The car: 1989 900 Turbo I call it an "instrument cover" for internetional reasons, but really I mean the dash. The cover is that yacky veneer stuff, like Rover 800s :) I want to replace with a black cover. Oh yeah, some of the lugs have snapped, so it's hanging off at one corner. I have had a quick play and followed part of the Haynes procedure. Rather than removing the central console and the lower dash, I have removed the 4 bolts (and labelled them, since they're different lengths) and can figure out how to remove most of the instruments, but I get stuck when it comes to the heater controls. I can figure out how to remove the controls light and the heater speed dial, but I can't see how to get the vent control out, or how to disengage the heat (hot/cold) controller. Do I have to pull off and label all the vac hoses and remove the units with the dash, or is there a way of disconnecting the controls from the dash in situ? What about the hot/cold control? How do I disengage the rod and refit after? Many thanks in advance, Paul 1989 900 Turbo S http://saab.go.dyndns.org/
