Subject: car cuts out if not revved

[I changed the oil, had to emery paper the chassis plug connection point bacause there was a big (1mm) gash in the aluminium. Still not there yet, will do some more on weekend. How on earth could that have happened ? Still it does explain the oil leak; but it does not explain why I paid £££ for a mecahnic to fix it who didnt notice.] So, now I have to admit it: we just sort of inspected the belts while we were at it, a little twist here and there to make sure no more that 90degree turn, and all seemed well. Now the engine cuts out if I am not revving it a bit. I'm learning (slowly) but I guess there are some answers that immediately spring to mind (although not mine - yet) Any advice most gratefully appreciated. Thanks tom '88 900i 8v
