Could be a number of things - dirty glass (inside or out), dirty reflector, flaked off reflective coating or water on the inside of the glass. Before you can figure out whether you need a new headlight unit, you need to figure out what's causing the loss of pettern. You can only do this by close examination of the unit. If it's just dirty glass/reflector, then all you need to do is clean them. If you've lost much of the silvering, then it's time for a new headlight. -- Grunff
