Except the oversized bearing and correspondingly oversized housing made it, IIRC, impossible to line up the original "wear" spots of the 2 relevant gears (130K miles). My shop didn't see anyway to compensate for this (they showed me the parts at the time and it seemed to make sense) and since they've rebuilt Saab trannies for a while I figured they would've found a way to do it if they could. Remember that not only is the diameter increased but the height of the bearing also so the housing had a bigger "stack height" (I'm a bike mechanic not a car mechanic). The housing is an adapter since the bearing doesn't just drop-in in place of the original. If they had installed the oversized kit the used input gear would have lined up on a fresh, effectively brand-new, portion of the output gear. Actually IIRC it would have been half and half. A lower mileage vehicle might have eventually "worn in" but I was spending enough as it was I didn't want to have to rebuild again because teeth started breaking off. I exaggerated a little, only about half the transmission needed replacement- wasn't me, I bought it used :-) -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 80,000 Newsgroups - 16 Different Servers! =-----
