I have an 84 900t 8 valve that has seen those problem again and again. Check for vacuum leaks! everytime it happens to me thats all it is. Best way i have found to find vacuum leaks is to go buy a can of carb cleaner. When the car is running spray a mist of it above the engine. You will see it get sucked in where ever the leak is. My problems were generally close to the drivers side shock tower.
