Subject: Classic 900 Dash Replacement

I replaced my dash last evening with one that had all the lugs intact. It's nice to have a dash that's not falling out at one side. It was a fairly straight forward job and took about an hour and a half, with labelling every component and making a written table of "what goes where". I had a heart in mouth moment when the heat control arm came off the car completely - that took about ten minutes of fiddling to push it back onto the engine-side :) One problem though - the heat vent control (all the heating controls were already on the dash, so I used them ) now loses air when set to demister or one of the lower <-o-> <=O=> positions. If you look at the vent control from the front, the LHS cluster of vac pipes have a hole with no pipe in the middle - this corresponds to the number 7 connector (written on the back of the vent control). If I put a finger over that hole, the air leak stops. Inspecting my original vent control, that connector is blocked off. Have I just not made a good enough seal when re-fitting the metal ring, or did other models have an open connector in number 7? The vac pipe cluster seemed to go on with less resistance than it came off the original. Looks like I'll have to remove the dash again and retro-fit the vent control. Grrrr. Also, only the top two (of three) and bottom two (of three) electrical connections on this controller were connected. Is this normal? Any help? Paul 1989 900 Turbo S http://saab.go.dyndns.org/
