Subject: stalling at stops

My '88 900 keeps dying whenever I come to a stop sign/stop light. It will start up again right away, but then stall again on the next stop. Last time this occured, about 3 years ago, it was a simple fix, I changed the battery and was on my way. This time I changed the battery, but no change. I'd like to hear your suggestions as what to do next. Alternator is the first thing that comes to mind, but I'd like your input. Thanks in advance, Shawn
