In article <BAAE4D55.51A5%pjghnopsamyonder.co.uk>, pjghnopsamyonder.co.uk spouted forth into alt.autos.saab... > I've since come to understand the Turks are a very accommodating > and generous people generally, unless you're a Leeds United fan (which > thankfully, I'm not). > It's true. I know that some of the people that stayed in the same Hotel as us had been back several times. And even helped some of the owners family to come over for their holiday on the cheap (normally unless you know someone, in the the winter you travel back north and stay with your family, living on what you earned in the summer). And one woman bought her husbands rolling tobacco in plan unmarked clear bags (size of a smal pillow) from a local grower, because she came back every year, she got it half price because he remembered her. And that is only going once or twice a year. Man U fans have probs too. Galatasari and Man U fans had a few kick offs in the past. And I know that a couple of the locals we spoke too when the tourist season was over came to the UK as visitors and worked as van drivers. And you find young people with degrees or working towrds degrees working in bars. Not because there aren't decent jobs, but because they haven't done their national service yet, so it would mean taking a year unpaid, or 18 months paid out from their career. That is why the people are so friendly I think, they have been brought up to respect each other through their faith, and freedom through harsh natonal service. And for the most of them it works. Of course just like every country nothing is that idylic, but as a tourist you generally don't get to see the downside. -- Carl Robson (The poster formerly known as Skodapilot) http://www.bouncing-czechs.com
