So you have to be driving to get the blower to work? Is the noise like a wheezing, farting noise? It could well be "that one way vent" on the vac canister in the off-side wing. Look for a large bottle tucked in near the windscreen on the off-side and listen to whether it hisses. If it hisses, the vents won't blow on anything other than demister until you start moving. You'll need a replacement there. I don't think there's a fix, but Meatball is the resident expert on that matter :) > Traffic jams in Boston during the summer are not any fun. > > 3) I know the heater is working and so is the air conditioner because > when I am driving the temperature is fine. Aha, the noise could well be the pulley wheel at the windscreen end of the A/C compressor. That's the big thingy near the windscreen with a belt on the back of it with a couple of long pipes that work their way down to the radiator - it's about the highest point under the hood. Maybe that's what your father was oiling. On my old '88 900 the compressor died, with similar noises. [My wife & I had set out on a trip to the coast and got about 20 miles before an awful scraping noise set in. Boy, did I feel stupid after turning back home to find she could make the noise go away by turning the A/C off. Grrr!] Try driving with the A/C off and tell us if that makes any difference to the above points. > I drove with two blankets all winter but the summer is on its way so I > know it has to get fixed. Sorry, I'm in the good old UK. Paul 1989 900 Turbo S http://saab.go.dyndns.org/
