I found the driving in the time I lived in the UK to be a lot more aggressive, but everyone was paying attention so it worked out. I think the big problem in the US is that the majority of drivers are either multitasking (cell phone, eating, drinking, dancing to the radio in the seat of their car) or just not paying attention.
