In article <MPG.18fb83ab16c2e66b989681nopsam.cis.dfn.de>, carl.robsonnopsamcing-czechs.com spouted forth into alt.autos.saab... > OK, my old electric arial had been stuck halfway between fully extended, > and fully down. > Car is a C900 T16S 1984. > > It wasn't a problem as it still worked as an arial, but made a god awful > grinding noise when you switched on and off the headunit. > Checked the circuit between the green wire direct to the earth point. > Good circuit when HU switched on, not curcuit when HU switched off. OK, Fixed the problem "Sort of", but I'm not happy with the solution, but it will do for now. Checked all the wiring again. All seemed good, but only getting low power both on battery and alternator, at the arial end (between 10-11v). Ran a new wire from the dash, down the passenger side, to the trunk, and connected it up (incase there was a broken/worn section somewhere. Still not good. Checked voltage at HU antenna connection, same there. Low voltage on the Antenna line. Not making 12v, so not firing the antenna. So, as the Headunit is permanentley hot, not wired through a switched source, I've branched a spur off that, fitted a bullet connector to that, and the antenna line, and ran that to the outside of the dash. So dangling outside the stereo are a pair of wires that make up a bullet connection. If I make the connection, the arial rises, If I break it, it drops. Also the new antenna feed also switches a relay that enables the 300watt inverter that I plan to use with the car PC, so I got two jobs done in one. Pity I didn't have a spare switch somewhere that I could have wired in, instead of the bullets. At least this way I haven't had to cut the dash to fit the switch. I guess I could always make the antenna ignition fed, rather than HU switched. -- Carl Robson (The poster formerly known as Skodapilot) http://www.bouncing-czechs.com
