In the South Bay (Santa Clara) B&B Saab is the only Saab game in town (Saab dealership). I had a good experience with them in purchasing a car. They have a fairly good used Saab lot, not sure how far back in years and how low price. I believe they are also the same dealership group as Burlingame Saab. In Walnut Creek there is the Dirito Brothers Saab dealership, don't know about them, but have heard good things. There is one in Oakland as well and know nothing at all about it. There are a few others (SF, Marin, etc.) - but living in the South Bay - I am not aware of them. As far as mechanics - not as certain as the Saab we have is still under the "free maintenance" period and we've only had it a week! I have heard of one Saab/Volvo garage in Santa Clara (can you guess where we live?) - but the name escapes me, and I do not know if they are good or not. Where exactly are you located in the Bay Area? I think $3000 should be able to get you a well maintained turbo 900, years typically would be early 1990's (like 1991-93), and expect most of them to have 100,000 or so miles on them (12000 miles per year being "average"). I personally would prefer a turbo 900 to just about any other used Saab of the era if I were going to budget $3k - the optional extras don't matter to me so much as long as it has a functional climate control system and a functioning radio. You are correct in locating a good mechanic first since any car with north of 80,000 miles on it should definitely be checked out by a mechanic before plunking down you hard earned cash - and some Saabs have been abused since they are so darned fun to drive! Good Luck!
