I had an accident in my 1999 9-5 SE. The airbag went off. Because I had positioned the seat and the steering wheel properly, as recommended by Saab, the airbag didn't even touch my body. The seatbelt kept me in place, and gave enough that I didn't even have a bruise. I suspect that most of the anecdotal "the airbag hurt me" stories are due to people sitting too close to the wheel, or angling it up toward their face -- two things that the owner's manual is quite clear are Bad Ideas. If you're quite short -- and you need to be very short, what with the 9-5's telescoping wheel -- then you should see if pedal extenders will give you enough clearance before getting the airbag disabled. -- Rob Levandowski roblnopsamhiz.com (Opinions expressed are solely my own and not a statement from my employer)
