Here in the US we have a Dunlop SP5000, which I think is a super tire and a great value. I use 225/50/16 on my 9-5, with total satisfaction except for a slight added speedometer error, compared to the Mich 215/55/16. Minimal tramlining on this car, good snow traction, excellent dry and wet adhesion. You can read about it and at least research comparative value on the Tirerack website. I don't know if their tires would be MOT-certified in UK.
