Being a Mac user I personally disagree with your take. The Graphic Design software as well as video and audio capabilities - software and hardware - have been the main selling point for people who make their living with the computers. I think you are talking about the "Mac-weenies" aka "evangelists" out there. They aren't any worse than Saab-heads! :)
