It is "surface" rust or something more severe? Make sure you get all the rust removed, I use 1000 grit with a little bit of water. Make sure you use sandpaper for automotive use. 3M makes good stuff. I would stay away from power tools as they tend to make a small detail a much larger project. If it is something more serious make sure to use something like POR 15 www.por15.com. Stay away from "rust" converters found at your local discount stores and automotive places. Just some ideas. Mac 15 Aircooled VWs and 1 Saab "J.
