If the person is reluctant to let it be inspected, it is a sign of a problematic car. Also the mechanic won't be able to find all potential problems with the car, just if overall there are any glaringly obvious problems, and as an experienced Saab mechanic, the "typical" problem areas for this brand are OK or not. Depending upon the status of the warranty, you may have some factory warranty left, too (think it is 4 years, 50k miles).
