Subject: Re: How is the MPG measured/estimated

Just after your "fill-up" the computer is providing a best guess. It will change according to your driving habits. I just finished a 600 mile trip with mostly highway driving in my 9000 Aero. At the beginning of the trip, I reset the computer. On the highway, CC set to 75Mph, the computer claimed an average 32.7Mpg at best and the Miles till empty was projecting around 600 miles for this tank of gas (technically not possible with a 17.4 gallon tank at 32.7Mpg). After some sitting in NYC, I finally stopped for gas at 433 miles on the odo. The computer was still claiming I had another 130 to go, and I think it would have since the gauge was about 1/8" above the red still. When I filled up, I manually calculated the Mpg to be 29.9, the computer was claiming 29.7 after my traffic jam joys. I was impressed that it was so accurate. Anyway, although during my normal trips around home I usually have to fill up at 300 miles on the odo, the car is capable of going 500+ miles on a single tank of gas if driven easily. On my trip the gas gauge was still a tad above 1/2 when I turned 300 miles.
