I wouldn't worry too much about the availability of the cable in years to come, they'll be dealer available for the next decade at least and if you need one after that well, a cable is just a cable!!!. Gearstick moving under load sounds like a soft engine mount although a slight bit of movement is usual on nearly all cars.
