Subject: Re: 94 9000 Aero--Your thoughts please

I, too, have a 94 9000 Aero. First it's a great car, second it's a maintenance hog. I purchased it used last July with 128Kmi on the clock. It appeared to be well maintained. I bought it from the second owner and he had immaculate service records. Since the purchase date, I have invested nearly $5K in repairs. $5K that was intended for mods. Things to look for: Leaky heater core (big expense) Malfunctioning engine cooling system (make sure it hasn't been overheated, if it has, make sure it was taken care of. timing chain guides get brittle after this event, if they snap off and stop the timing chain..... you can figure the rest out) Exhaust Wheel bearings (rumbling sound) Transmission (yes, manuals seem to be a problem around 130K, just replaced mine due to failing pinion bearing) Leaky valve cover Head gasket leak Broken manifold bolts Faulty BPC valve Suspension Steering bushes Those are the majors that I have experienced. For others check out the website below. This guys is very respected in the Saab community. http://www.quasimotors.com/buying.htm I still love my Aero, no matter what it costs (and that's plenty).
