Countries like Turkey have a national idustry in counterfeit goods (mainly clothes CDs and DVD/VCDs of movies). they have no copyright laws, and the main buyers are tourists. Most know that what they are buying fake. Others are more Gullible and really think they are getting a pair of genuine Armani jeans for 10GBP/15USD. It isn't a matter of quality either. I use my turkish holidays to restock my Wardrobe, you can't buy without a designer label so you might as well buy brands you fancy. The quality is good too, I have 3 year old jeans, and two year old shirts that look they just came out of the cellophane. > > BTW, I do not include some one selling individual copies of one piece of > > software in the same criminal league as the "Companies" that have > > lockups full of directly replicated copies of expensive software that > > are sold a knock down prices as originals. Not quite as long, but I've been web coding for about 6 years, and I can get where you are coming from. But with individuals copying discs for a mate (just as illegal), or finding a "Warez" copy on the net (again just as illegal), it mainly because it is for private use, and they couldn't afford to buy a new copy of most of the major stuff. When Winwk Pro cost 300GBP, and Office 2k costs 250GBP (when released) thats 550 GBP, when they could have built the machine for 500gbp if they knew where to buy parts. Not saying it's right, but I can understand why the individual might take the opportunity to save money, and how the unscrupulous jump at the chance to take their cash. -- The poster formerly known as Skodapilot. http://www.bouncing-czechs.com
