I've never needed to call a helecopter to take anyone who was in a car with an airbag; I've called many for people without airbags. Of course, most of those also weren't wearing a seatbelt... There are specific situations when, I understand, an airbag can cause problems (short drivers, small kids, that sort of thing), but in, er, about 8 years as an EMT (I'd have to check, it's right about that long) the worst airbag-related injury I've seen was an abraded face (think: rugburn). There's a lot of confusion about the "smoke" when airbags deploy, it's just talc and/or cornstarch, but a lot of people think their car is on fire. It's just a dry lubricant in there to keep the fabric of the airbag from sticking together after being packed in there for years, but the dust seems to surprise a lot of folks. Dave Hinz
