Subject: removing stuck brake rotors

I'm looking for helpful hints on how to remove the brake rotor from the hub, when it's seized on by rust and time. It was easy to remove the pads, caliper, and securing screw but I can't get the rotor to budge. I hesitantly added some heat (didn't want to melt any rubber nearby or burn out the grease in the bearing) and I'm afraid a good hard whack will damage the hub, axle, abs sensor, sprint, shock, etc. etc. Moderate whacking with a 2lb hammer has not yet persuaded it to budge. Suggestions? I hate having to resort to the mechanic when I'm this far along. Thanks, -chris (the car is a 97 900 SE, if it makes a difference)
