[Comments on the flat rate rip off in another followup] Job comments: The belt is about $38, the upper pulley about $35. I don't know what the lower pulley goes for, I'd expect that it was at least $40 too. So, the parts sound a little low for all three. The upper pulley is the one that wears out. The lower pulley can, but it is unusual. The belt also wears out. I don't know if you needed both done, it's impossible to tell from here. In the future, replace the upper pulley (only) and belt every 45K miles. You can easily do it yourself in 30 minutes. If you don't like to pull a wrench, pay your local mechanic to do it in 45K miles. FWIW, consider yourself a little lucky: If you don't hear the noise and realize these need replacement, the upper pulley disintegrates and shreds the belt, leaving you stranded on the road. Bob
