I have the same experience, admittedly I'm used to a lot of noise and 
vibrations from my previous Land Rover Diesel, but with my Saab 9-3 I 
regularly forget I'm in 2nd or 3rd gear. Also, sometimes when it's 
running stationary I have to check that the engine hasn't stalled.
