Subject: Wiper Transmission Problems

I'm getting this severe groaning noise coming from my wipers on my 1990 900. It started up suddenly after a heat wave.It rained, the wipers started up but then groaned to a stop. If I leave the swithch on, and go out and give them a little push, they begin to move again, slowly and groaning.I removed the wiper motor and moved the wipers by hand and got quite a bit of resistance and again the groaning noise. I am assuming that the heat baked any lubricant from the shafts. I have a Bentley manual and have checked the Townsend website and have followed all of the instructions but I still can't get this thing out. I've removed the AC belt,I've removed the wiper motor,I've even tried to separate the right side shaft from the transmission body. I've tried from the left side and the right side, I've pulled up,pushed down, gone sideways but still can't come close. My only other option is to remove the AC compressor but I believe that if both Townsend and Bentley can get this out without doing it, I should be able to also. Anyone know of any tricks that I missed?? Has anyone had this noise happen to them and is my diagnosis correct in that the shafts need to be greased?? Any help would be graetly appreciated!!! Thanks
