I have the exact same problem on my 95 900S. The top hesitates going either way, and I must "back off" an inch or two with the switch and then the top will proceed to close or open normally. It does seem to be a slowly degenerative problem. When you say the roof needs to be reprogrammed, do you mean simply resetting the codes in the top computer?
