Subject: Re: AM Radio Reception problems

I had the identical problem and the dealer had the car for a month before someone came over from sweden and figured out. Here are your syptoms. 1. Horrible static on AM when the car is MOVING. 2. Static goes away briefly if you tap the breaks. 3. Static isn't that bad when it is raining. They checked everything and it's Grandmother on my car... The solution? Lose the Perilli tires. It seems that static build up on ANY vehicle is discharged through the tires. Some tires don't do this very well without a little help.. (Rain on the road, tap of the breaks, etc. ) They put Michelen Tires on (Free of charge because I had had the problem since getting the car new) and the problem went away. Now before you say this is crap, look up static and tires in the news groups. There was actually a recall of a ford Vehicle in the mid 90s because the static charge never left the tires until you got out of the car and arcs jumped from the tires onto the people. There is even a recorded event of a fire at a gas station in Germany cause by the same event. There are actually companies out there selling metal strips that dangle from your car and drag on the street to allow for the discharge. PLEASE Respond on this forum if this helps.
