1. Check coolant level. Sounds pretty basic but you never know. 2. Check radiator hoses while engine is hot and running. Is the hose going from the engine to the radiator getting as hot as the one going into it? Is the hose staying open or is it collapsing? 3. Check thermostat. If that isn't opening or not opening enough, the engine will get very hot. If all those check out, you'll need to start on the more costly stuff, like sensors.
