When you're shopping for a car 10-13 years old, the service records and driving style of previous owners are much more significant than any survey or usenet opinion. Common problems may have been fixed, uncommon ones may be hidden. Buying any of them without a bumper-to-bumper check by a qualified mechanic is dangerous. If reliability were the only issue when buying a car, we'd all drive soul-less Japanese blandmobiles. I have a '99 Saab 9-3 and an '03 BMW 330i in my driveway. Neither of them will rank high in the reliability survey, but both are damn fine cars that make me smile every time I turn the key.
