On cars with, er, traditional ignition systems, keeping components clean and adjusted (dirt, corrosion, connector seatings) seems to pay. Back when the state of spark plugs was more critical than it now seems to be, I became quite skilled at cleaning and resetting the gaps. (There are subtle issues, too complex to go into here.) Does anyone know, is it still true that engine oil will speed the perishing of plug leads? I got into the habit of wiping down the leads (paper towel moistened with white spirit) now and then. At least the engine looked cleaner afterwards. -- Andrew Stephenson
